Week 7, Sunday
In 413 BC the beaten Athenian army at Syracuse was finally ready to sail home when the moon went dark in a full eclipse. Nicias, its general, obeyed his soothsayers and waited thrice nine days, and the Syracusans used them to chain the harbor shut, smash his fleet inside it and hunt his army down on the retreat. Matthew is Nicias minus the eclipse, plus a dumbass.
Carlos banked 60.24 on Thursday night and was done before Matthew got his pants off, and Matthew answered with 7.8. That dropped Matthew from 21 percent to 7 percent, the harbor closing one chained ship at a time. Carlos is expected for 186.3 behind Jordan Love, while Matthew is expected for 130.1 and is starting Rashid Shaheed, projected for 5.9, like a rowboat sent out to break the blockade. Nicias at least had the sky go black over his head; Matthew had clear weather and nobody to blame but himself.
The matchups
Njigba’s in Paris (Peter) vs Shough and Fhough (Justin)
Peter is expected for 199.2 at 83 percent behind Brock Purdy's 24.4, which is a lot of faith in a man who started Case Keenum on a week Keenum did not play. Justin banked 20.2 on Thursday, needs Jahmyr Gibbs's 26.4 to drag Ryan Flournoy's 7 across the line, and sits at 17 percent with the same brain that started Efton Chism III for a zero. Fodder.
Love on the Spectrum (Ethan) vs Anish
Ethan, the commissioner, banked 49.82 on Thursday and climbed from 59 percent to 74, and since this is the man who left 57.3 on his bench in week 6, the only explanation is that the games locked before he could touch anything. He is expected for 192.4 with his whole Sunday riding on Bryce Young's 21.8, so the man who wrote the rules is praying to Bryce Young. Anish named his team Anish, starts Kendre Miller at 8.8 next to Ja'Marr Chase, and is about to lose to a Bryce Young.
